Fetch Robotics and Körber announce new case preparation solution for distribution centers
SAN JOSE, California, July 14, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Fetch Robotics, the leader in cloud robotics, today announced a new integrated checkout support solution with Körber. The new solution dynamically orchestrates the movement of associates and warehouse robots, combining the power of Fetch’s Freight500 and Freight1500 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) with the optimization capabilities of Körber warehouse management systems, supporting checkout selection workflows for installations of all sizes.
Warehouse requirements have increased dramatically over the past year, as increased consumer spending has increased demand on distribution centers. Additionally, distribution organizations face long-standing workforce issues. This includes hiring and retaining qualified personnel, managing seasonal fluctuations, and using temporary workers to operate forklifts.
âToday’s warehouses are faced with record order volumes and limited access to labor, and need flexible solutions more than ever,â said Stefan Nusser, Product Manager at Fetch Robotics. “Our new case preparation solution enables customers to achieve safer and more efficient case preparation in facilities of all sizes.”
In a traditional pallet picking workflow, pickers spend the majority of their shifts driving a forklift or pulling a hand pallet truck through the warehouse to each location on their pick sheet or RF device. After arriving, the picker must manually find the right product, perform the pick, return to the forklift or pallet truck and proceed to the next location until the entire pallet is complete. Although this model is widely used, it has many drawbacks. Often times, this requires traveling long distances, minimizing the actual time spent picking, and causing congestion in the warehouse aisles as multiple pickers use the same routes.
The new case picking solution from Fetch and Körber enables picking by zone, which keeps employees in the aisles and improves picking on many orders. This workflow is based on Körber’s WMS pick path optimization functionality, which directs AMRs to the correct locations in the correct order for optimal pallet construction. This solution can be deployed via RF scanners, voice selection, or with vision-based order picking solutions.
In addition, it offers substantial security benefits. Each year, more than 11% of all forklifts are involved in an injury, and a single workplace injury can cost facility owners an estimate $ 150,000. Using AMRs in a zoned order picking environment enables distribution centers to reduce their reliance on manual forklifts, especially in congested areas. Therefore, by combining Fetch’s automated handling capabilities with Körber’s WMS, facilities realize benefits almost immediately.
Nishan Wijemanne, Global Leader AMR / Robotics, Körber Business Area Supply Chain, adds: âFetch Robotics continues to develop cutting-edge automated warehouse solutions and this new integrated pallet picking solution will help accelerate execution, improve safety and to improve workflows for our customers around the world. ”
While this new solution addresses package picking, Fetch’s AMRs can also be combined with Körber’s WMS to optimize discrete order picking, batch picking and replenishment. Together, the companies also offer automated pallet-based workflows such as cross-docking, inbound, replenishment, and returns. Fetch’s extensive AMR portfolio can also be used to automate virtually any movement of material, including recycling / garbage removal, tidying up, milk rounds, rush orders and other tasks that require an associate to manually move equipment.
